Sooo…I get up at 0500 this morning. It’s still pretty dark.
0520. I get dressed to run.
0540. Weather check: “Still too dark, and it looks pretty windy too. Screw this, I’m going running later, after work.
0900. Oh look, it might rain today.
1230. Oh look, it’s raining. Pretty steady too. aside from the great running weather for this afternoon, the collective driving IQ for the Lexington Park, MD area drops about 20 points.
1630. Still raining when I get home.
1710. Aaand I’m off. A quarter of a mile into my two-mile slog, my lower left leg and my lower back tell me that I’ve hit the wall. It’s a gentle reminder that I’m carrying a lot more weight than my “days of glory”, and maybe it’s time for me to return to the World’s Gym to help lose some of that weight. At the last quarter mile though, I catch an unexpected second wind. My leg and my back are still talking to me, but I muster enough “oomph” to finish the run without stopping.
Today’s run was unscheduled “bonus mileage” for not reading the six-month schedule and starting my running on SUNDAY instead of Monday. So I ended up with a two-miler on what was supposed to be my off-day. In about 12-13 more hours, I get to do it again for Wednesday’s run. Off Thursday and one last two-miler on Friday.
But wait…there’s more! If I had gotten off my ass and run this morning, I probably could have stopped by one of the Mexican restaurants on my way home and caught the second half of the UEFA Champions’ League semifinal between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Oh, yeah, and maybe if I ran this morning, I would have gotten something to eat and gone to work with a clear head. Then I wouldn’t have had to spend 45 minutes this morning trying to arrange a conference call for four people on a phone line that could only hold three.
That being said…the run is done. Tomorrow morning, I’ll do some stretching before I venture out into the pre-dawn here in southern Maryland. On my off day, I need to plan a gym schedule as well. I need to research this “fartlek” thing as well, since I will be doing that at least once a week, starting next week.
Oh, btw, I will post about other stuff on this blog (sports, politics, personal life without violating the TMI rule) from time to time. Watch this space.
Good Lord I hope the weather gets better soon. At this rate, summer’s going to be hot and muggy with showers twice a day.
Take it away, Rammstein:
