A few things I learned from this evening’s run:
- Okay, the sleeping-in on run days really needs to stop. Any run that starts at 6:30 p.m. is going to end after dark. Traffic is heavier at 7:15 p.m. than 5:00 a.m.
- My first run of the week is on Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays because I take two days to recover from the Sunday long runs…especially the more punishing ones like the National Capital 20 miler on the C&o Towpath.
- Because of the shortened recovery time, stretching becomes that much more important.
- Chips and queso and/or guac from Chipotle’s? Yeah, I can hang with that.
I didn’t exactly die, but I went about 20 feet before i realized 2) and 3). I was not planning on sprinting the four miles of Ranieri Run, but my thighs were simply not feeling it tonight, speed or distance be damned. Could’ve stretched out , at least…or maybe a Japanese ham sandwich or two.
Rather than just completely shutting down the run, I decided to shuffle to at least the mile mark and then go back. Half a loaf and a bird in the hand, y’all. I started feeling a little better as I climbed the final hill towards Abberly Crest, but I decided that enough was enough.
So…two miles in the books instead of four…and so much work to do…
