Yep, fall is here…and I’m back on the road.
Another week, another mini-hiatus. After “oversleeping” yesterday and missing the intervals/circuit workout, I got up at 0430ish for a 0500 run to Shangri-La Drive and back.
First, I think I’m either having a problem with my smartphone’s touchscreen or my MapMyRun app. When I activated the app for the run, I spent about 2~3 minutes with the app announcing “workout paused”/”workout resumed.” Maybe the app automatically pauses the workout when you’re not running? Maybe my touchscreen has suddenly become more sensitive? When I fist had this problem, it was because I put the phone in my sweet-drenched Flipbelt, but now it’s happening with a dry belt ( or a dry pocket) and at the start of runs.
Second, MMR or no, I wasn’t that concerned with pace this morning, I just needed to get back on the road. The first day of autumn was chilly this morning, so I may have to invest in some more running tights and fluorescent long-sleeve running shirts. I can get all that pretty cheaply at Dick’s Sporting Goods or Wal-Mart. The Day-Glo long-sleeves will be a little tougher to find; there are brands sold in online running stores, but this can be a little pricey, as well as a lot more…complex than what I really need.
Third, my running plan this weekend: 3 miles today, the five miler to NAS Pax River gate 1 tomorrow, and an 8-miler to be determined. Thinking either Sheetz run or Great Mills 8 ( To HWY-5, Great Mills Road, back down Willows Road). No wights this week.
Next week will be two more six milers (Park Hall Road, Zion 6, or Superwillow 6) before one final attempt at 20 miles. DC Runners is supposed to have a 20 miler next weekend, so i will have to check that out. The goal for this last long run will be to just finish, time and pace be damned. I will probably do one more run to St Mary’s City before easing into the month-long taper before the Marine Corps Marathon.
36 days. Man I was thinking this morning about the arctic blast and making shakshuka way back in February. My how time flies.
Health check: Feeling better. No plantar issues, no knee/patella issues, and that mysterious twinge in my left thigh has gone way down since the summer. Diabetes is back under control. Right are rash has subsided, but still itches. getting my eyes dilated today. Need to have a talk with the eye doctor.
Song of the Day: Japanese female metal, one by a J-pop band, another by a no-kidding hard-rock/metal group. If either of these songs inspire you to run, then God Bless you. Oh, and by the way, I have no English translations at this time, and I’m not even gonna bother with Genius today.
Band-Maid: Thrill “The band, first known as BAND-MAID®, formed in July 2013. Singer/guitarist Miku Kobato, formerly an employee of a Japanese maid café, envisioned forming a band that juxtaposed the maid image with rock music. Kobato recruited lead guitarist Kanami Tōno after an Internet search. Tōno had performed as a singer-songwriter and suggested her occasional backing drummer Akane Hirose for the new band. Hirose in turn suggested bassist Misa, with whom she had attended music school. On July 24, 2013 they had their first live performance at the PP Audition held at Osaka Deep, as a quartet with Kobato on vocals. The band then decided to add an additional lead singer and selected Saiki Atsumi during auditions. Their first performance as a five-piece was at the P Festival at Shibuya-AX on August 22, 2013.(HT: Wikipedia)” Good looking young women who can rock. End of discussion.
BABYMETAL/”Karate:” How this song has not appeared on Cobra Kai (YouTube’s serialized sequel to the Karate Kid movies) is beyond me. From Wiki:
“Babymetal [A] (stylized as BABYMETAL) are a Japanese kawaii metal band. The band consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as “Su-metal” (Vocal and Dance) and Moa Kikuchi as “Moametal” (Scream and Dance). The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the “Kami Band” at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (Vocal and Dance), Moametal (Scream and Dance), and Yui Mizuno as “Yuimetal” (Scream and Dance), with the concept of a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto’s departure from Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal released their eponymous debut album in February 2014. Their second album Metal Resistance was released worldwide on April 1, 2016, charting well internationally for a Japanese band. Babymetal has also embarked on several tours, with a majority of their tour dates taking place outside of Asia.”
I would’ve actually taken something from the bands’ websites, but they’re both Japanese, and no guarantee on if anything would be translated into English. Anyway, enjoy the videos.
Talk to y’all tomorrow.
