MCM 2019/T-Minus 97: Brutal

Free association from the 11 mile round trip to the SAIC Building:

Mile 1: Off to a good start. Too good? Nice to have the full moon at my back.

The strong smell of bacon from the iHop a half mile from Gate 1 of NAS Patuxent River.

Potty break at the Wawa gas station just before Mile 4. No. 1 and 2.

Started slipping after rounding the parking lot at the SAIC building.

Hungry as hell at Mile 6; probably lost my breakfast of three half-slices of cinnamon-raisin English muffin with peanut butter and my Gu from Mile 4. Right upper thigh kind of sore. Just gassed.

Was it the humidity? Was it me skipping the Wednesday run and the Saturday circuit session? I really can’t tell. Whatever it was, the run back home was brutal. My MapMyRun sounded off some awful split times but i didn’t care. I was not going for DidNot Finish for the second straight week. I just half-shuffled, half-jogged back home. The four mile stretch between NAS Patuxent River and the SAIC building is a few gradually rising and falling grades; they may not be that steep, but they are long, which made for a few challenging climbs this morning. No, I didn’t make up anything on the downward grades either.

Anyway, this morning was all about survival and finishing, especially after last week’s DNF. July runs have generally been brutal; if I look over my training logs from the last five years, Illinois bet most of my all-time DNFs have been during the humid month of July.

Okay, it’s time for cool down and an epsom salt bath. Talk to y’all tomorrow.

Song of the Day: Eagles/”Already Gone:” My official “I’m out of Facebook jail, and IDGAF if you like my posts or not” song. Long story.
