So, it’s St. Mary’s City for 13 tomorrow morning. No half marathon this weekend; also I briefly toyed with driving out to NAS Patuxent River and running the triathlon 13.1, but I passed on that as well. Not really up for the 0445 drive and I wanted to focus on running as much as possible.
The short circuit with lighter weights went well this morning, even though I was up at 0430, out of bed by 0435, dressed at 0440…and at the gym at 0520. The gym at the Abberly Crest apartment office is about a three minute walk from my apartment.
I should weigh myself after I run tomorrow, but I’m not going to make any major changes at this point. My diet isn’t exactly runner friendly, but it’s filling and has enough protein, so it is what it is. I’m more concerned about my blood sugar this point. No changes to the hydration/nutrition plan either: 4 oz. of Mio water (Mio Energy, Black Cherry flavor) plus one Gu packet every four miles. There will be plenty of water and snacks come marathon day, but I may carry something just in case. every little bit helps.
Speaking of nutrition, every Saturday night for the last month or so, it’s been an oven cooked frozen pizza before bed. At 0400 every Sunday, it’s an English muffin with peanut butter. This usually means a No.2 just before I go run and maybe another within the first four miles. Something to think about as there are no public toilets between here and St. Mary’s City, and local law enforcement is always on the prowl somewhere.
As of now, I have no prolonged soreness in my knees or anywhere in my limbs. Mosquitoes may not be an issue now that we’re officially into fall, but I’m using that Skin So Soft anyway. Two tech shirts and Bodyglide will be standard operating procedure for anti-chafing.
Right now I am running between an 11:30~12:30 pace. No idea what it should be for a 48 y/o male weighing around 210 lbs. but right now I’ll take it.
MapMyRun? Meh…that’s why I have a stopwatch.
If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. End of.
Song of the Day: “Natural Blues”/Moby. Not the most uplifting video he’s ever done, although there are shades of the last scene of Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Still, well-done instrumentals backed up by an ancient (circa 30s or 40’s) sample.
“The Politics of Dancing”/Re-Flex. Amazing how these 80s one-hit wonders are becoming staples of movie soundtracks. I might check out Atomic Blonde just to see 1) where this song checked in at and 2) what other songs in the movie sound good.
“Riders on the Storm”/The Doors. The last ever song that lead singer Jim Morrison recorded with the band; six months (?) later, he was found dead in a bathtub in paris, France. Sad…if Jim had just did his jail time and maybe got clean, who knows where the Lizard King could have taken the group?
