Forty-Eight to Joes

The four miler Willow-to Shangri-La (SMH-21) went okay this morning. Not great because of some slowdown near the first uphill at my apartment complex (where I ended my two mile runs), and I had to really grind out the last 0.8 miles from the SMH-21 final turnaround point. I am hoping all these hill runs pay off in the later stages (and eventually, the Marine Corps Marathon), or at least I don’t get shot up kneecaps or shin splints in the process.

I had planned to go to Washington DC this weekend, but I had to fill in for a Marine Corps league member who had to go to the hospital this week. So, instead of running the National Mile this Sunday, it will be the NAS Pax River beach House Run-plus (to make up for the 1.2 miles I shorted out from last Sunday’s NAS run). Tomorrow is the last Circuit Course 2 at World Gym. Can my knees handle the hack squats this time? We shall see…

Part of this weekend I had planned two last binges at tow of my favorite DC Triangle area restaurants: Joe’s Crab Shack in Fredericksburg, VA, and Fogo de Chao in downtown DC. Joe’s Crab Shack is a fantastic seafood joint that specializes in steam pots with all kinds of stuff from lobster to three different varieties of crab, shrimp, and other seafood. They also put in new potatoes and andouille sausage to round out the meal. Pound for pound, I believe you can get more seafood than Red Lobster and at a competitive price matching McCormick and Schmick’s (another DC seafood joint I like to frequent).

Fogo de Chao is a Brazilian churrascaria (steakhouse) that serves their meats on spits and has servers that come by your table with different cuts of meat. You can select as much or as little as you desire, but if you try to get at least one sampling of the thirteen meats that FdC serves, you can get full in a hurry.

Since the DC trip is cancelled (or at least postponed to when I have a fews weekend), I am going to make a challenge of sorts. If I can accomplish some personal objectives within 48 hours (at least by 5:00 pm Sunday) I will make the trip to…whichever restaurant wins the coin toss.

I will put up the list (and any progress I made) tomorrow; right now, let me introduce you to Utopia, featuring legendary progressive rocker Todd Rundgren…
